01One house, first sketch to handover

From “is it even buildable?” to “we kept every tree.”

Kate runs Fernlea Studio, a small residential practice in Brisbane's west. Follow one house in Bardon: a couple, a block that falls 7 metres to the back, and two gums they won't lose.

Fernlea Studio, Kate, Mel and Hamish are made up to show how it works

Everyone says dig it out. She finds a house that didn't.

Mel searches “architect sloping block Brisbane” and lands on Fernlea's Ashgrove Hillside House page: a family home that steps down the hill instead of into it. She sends the survey and two photos of their block. Next morning it's in Kate's inbox with the files, the suburb and the project that brought her in.

A walk on the block Saturday. A fee proposal by Thursday.

Kate taps Book a consult and Mel picks a time in Kate's own booking calendar. Saturday they walk the block and Kate sketches the section on the spot. Thursday she opens the enquiry and taps Fee proposal. The survey and photos are already there. She sets her fees out in four stages, GST is worked out, and it's good for 30 days.

Hi Mel and Hamish, a 7 m fall and two good gums sounds like a lovely problem. Pick a time to walk the block with me. Kate

Fifteen months of building. A diary post after every site visit.

After each site visit Kate holds the button and says it: “Bardon, month five. The frame's up and both gums are still standing.” Genius adds her photos to the project diary on her website and her Sloping blocks page, and writes a post for Instagram and Facebook. Nothing goes out until she taps Publish. Mel shares every one. App coming soon

Keys handed over. The house joins your projects.

Kate says “Bardon's finished. Add it to our projects with the first sketch.” Genius makes the Bardon Hillside House page with the brief, the photos, the diary and a slider from sketch to built, and links it from the Sloping blocks and Bardon pages. Then she taps Ask for a review. Sunday night Mel writes one, and the next couple with a steep block sees it beside Fernlea's name.

Three builders told us to dig the block out. Kate drew a house that steps down the hill, and we kept both gums. The fee proposal was clear, and the monthly posts meant we always knew where things were.

02Your projects, your briefs, your suburbs

A page for every house you've drawn.

Nobody searches “architect”. They search “architect for a sloping block in Brisbane” or “extension architect Paddington”. So every finished project, every kind of brief and every suburb gets its own page, written the way people ask.

Photos, the brief, the site and the diary, linked from the right brief and suburb pages. Say “add it to our projects” and Genius builds it.

03Questions

Things architects ask us.

Something else? Email support@localgenius.com.au and a real person will get back to you.

Will my projects look as good as they do in print?

That's the idea. Project pages are built around big photos and your own drawings, with the brief, the site and the diary underneath. Add or swap photos any time, or type the change to Ask Genius.

Does it say “fee proposal”, not “quote”?

Yes. Start it from the enquiry, set your fees out by stage and add your own amounts. GST is worked out for you. Your fees never go on your website unless you want them to.

Can people book an initial consult from my website?

Your website and your replies link to the booking tool you already use, like Calendly or a Google Calendar booking page. LocalGenius doesn't take the bookings itself, it just sends people to the right place.

Do diary posts go out without me seeing them?

Never. Genius writes each post from your photos and your words, then waits for your OK. You choose what's shown, like the suburb but not the street, and nothing about your clients goes up unless you put it there.

Good houses start with a conversation. Let yours start here.

Get your practice website up, then let LocalGenius help with the enquiries, fee proposals, diary posts and reviews around every project.
