Is the domain really free?
Yes, for the first year, on every plan. It covers an ordinary ending, like .com.au, .au or .com. Paid renewals are coming soon: after the first year it will renew at the price shown in LocalGenius, on the same bill as your plan, and we remind you before it renews. Premium names priced by their owners aren't included.
Who owns the domain?
You do. It's registered in your name or your business's name, through an accredited registrar. You can move it to another provider any time: ask for the transfer code in Domains or email support@localgenius.com.au. Under registry rules, some domains can't move in their first 60 days.
Do I need an ABN for a .com.au?
Yes. That's auDA's rule for .com.au and .net.au. Type your ABN and we check it with the ABN register straight away. Don't know it? Search by your business name. No ABN? A .au or .com works too.
I already have a domain. Do I have to move it?
No. Connect it instead. We look up where it's registered, who runs its settings and where your email goes. Then we can make the change for you, or show you the exact steps for GoDaddy, Crazy Domains, VentraIP, Netregistry and more. Your email keeps working, because we leave its settings alone.
What's SSL, and why is it free?
SSL is what makes your address start with https, so browsers show your site as secure. Google ranks secure sites higher. It's issued and renewed for every address on your site, and you never touch it.
